Tui Na Massage

What is a Tui Na massage?

Tuina or Tui-Na is a form of traditional Chinese massage. Believed to be one the oldest forms of bodywork, archaeologists have found evidence of Tui Na being used as far back as 2700 BC.

Tui na is based on the idea that imbalances in your Qi (your body's life force/energy) can lead to physical pain or illness. Similar to acupuncture, the massage therapist will use their fingers instead of needles, to stimulate certain acupoints. Stimulating your Qi to promote balance and harmony within.

What are the benefits of getting a Tui Na massage at home?

The main goal of Tui Na is to create balance and harmony within the body, by eliminating blockages and disruptions to your body's natural rhythms. As a result combating the physical manifestations they create- such as illness and disease. Some of the benefits of Tui Na include:

Increased Blood Flow- Boosting both blood and energy flows are 2 of the main intentions when it comes to Tui Na massage. A 2015  study indicated that, manipulating the BL 56 accupoint using Tui Na with medium force for 10 minutes, was more effective in increasing blood flow than soft or heavy pressure for the same amount of time. The increase in oxygen rich blood flow helps to promote cell growth and heart health.

Treats Osteoarthritis- One of the benefits of Tui Na is that it alleviates the symptoms of osteoarthritis. In knees specifically it improves the muscle tension of both the flexor and extensor muscles, relieving pain stiffness and improving over all function. In a 2011 study, patients saw a noticeable improvement after receiving Tui Na massages 3 times a week over 9 months.

Eases Depression- As depression has both a physical and emotional impact, it's important to focus on healing your body not just your mind. A 2015 review not only concluded that Tui Na was therapeutic for those with depression, but it was seen to be more effective in reducing depression, than conventional treatments.
